    Waste Carrying

Invenio is now a licensed waste carrier, and not a moment too soon.

With our new suction unit on order, we are looking to cut out the middle man of cleaning, ensuring both the availability and the quality of cleaners for work to be carried out. The unit is expected to be delivered in July, and we will be looking for a two-person team to take over the work.

    Welsh Office

Good news for our co workers in Wales, Invenio has found and made arrangements for out first office in Newport. While it has yet to be furnished, this is wonderful news as it provides a base for us to work out of for the duration of the work which is currently being carried out for Welsh Water.

    Victory at Hackathon!

Recently Invenio Systems attended the Hackathon hosted by Yorkshire Water at the Bradford Digital Catapult Centre. This event, ran by +ADD Strategy on behalf of Yorkshire Water, was hosted with the aim to reduce pollution incidents caused by sewage overflow in the Yorkshire Water area. It aimed to achieve this by developing an improved model for prioritising alarms, as well as determining ‘best’ locations for sensors in the sewer network.

Invenio sent a team of John Dolan and Alasdair Head, who were able to provide a method to pre-screen data in order to reduce the number of false positives which were being flagged as at risk. They were told that there are certain trends in the data that they look for, like erratic behaviour and flatlining (similar to our “fuzziness” and “wobbly” flags). By examining these trends and the outcomes, we were able to show that ~96% of data labelled “erratic” gave a false positive, meaning, the engineer didn’t need to haul his/her large cleaning equipment to the site, a simple wipe of the sensor would suffice.

Secondly, they came up with a potential issue that YW may not have considered. They showed that the distribution density of the sensor location needed to be higher for pipes that had a steeper gradient. For this insight John and Alasdair received the prize for best sensor location at the event, beating more than a dozen teams sent by rival companies, an outstanding achievement.

    Innovation event 2018

On Thursday 19th of April, Stuart, Andy and Ed attended an innovation event organised by Welsh Water where they had a stand to showcase our technology/services. We had some positive interest from other departments in Welsh Water as well as other potential clients. It has been decided that next year we will try to compete in the innovation competition.
