DataWatch and ODK
As for changes to DataWatch and ODK, three new forms have been introduced which should make everybody’s lives a little easier:
- Vehicle checklist
- Quarantine logger
- Daysheet form.
These have all been removed from the previous work mobile system, and can help keep track of mileage, hours, and repairs that may need to be carried out. There have also been the minor fixes to the ODK forms as well as raw data downloads that have been added to DataWatch where you can download the data for multiple loggers.
Further to this, Over the past few weeks, John has been working with Richard Roe on a project which will run the continuous flow identification on DataWatch. This means we could hire out our loggers to third parties, have them upload the data from the loggers and view the preliminary results on DataWatch. This will be a hugely interesting development in the way business is carried out at Invenio.
Bluetooth Loggers
The latest development in Stop.Watch technology is being tested in Grangetown, South Wales. These new loggers function in much the same way as traditional Stop.Watch loggers, however these have the added benefit of being able to download onsite, without the need to disturb the chamber.
Meant initially as a trial, 50 of these loggers are being used on Welsh water projects, where we are hoping that they can prove their usefulness by streamlining site work.
Thames Water
We have submitted a Pre-Qualification Questionnaire for work on the new Thames Water leakage framework. We passed the first round and are now preparing to submit the full tender for project work as part of their long-term leakage plan.
A successful bid is an opportunity to develop a long-term relationship similar to that of DCWW and Scottish Water. We should hear whether we have been successful before the end of November, and I’m sure everyone is hoping for the best outcome.
A warm welcome
It is with open arms that we welcome our two new site engineers in the Welsh Water Area. Gareth Dayton and Josh Evans have been brought in to replace the departing Ashley Hopkins, and Rhydian Hughes who we wish all the best. We know they will fit in well.

Josh: “Hey, My name is Josh Evans I’m 26 years old and have 8 years’ experience in the water industry with most of it spent working for DCWW as a subcontractor with RPS as a Leakage Technician and the rest was spent working/living in Australia for Two and Half years. From this experience I have acquired a wide variety of skills/knowledge of how different companies work within this industry which I hope to share with the company in the future.
I enjoy playing rugby on weekends for my local team and when I’m not running around on the grass you can usually find me wading through it trying to perfect my golf game, Haha! Look forward to meeting everyone at Invenio and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.”
Employee Spotlight
Michael Duggan
– What is your role at Invenio Systems?
I am one of several Project Managers at Invenio Systems. This role requires me to adapt to suit whichever project I find myself involved in. For some, I will be the main point of contact for the water company and managing the project to the best of my ability, whereas with others I will be assisting one of the other engineers with site works and contractor management. It is a varied and rewarding (if sometimes exhausting) role.
– Tell us a little about yourself.
I was born in South Shields in 1992. This made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move. I have been with my partner Lisa for coming up to 7 years now, having met her at Newcastle University, where I studied for my Mechanical Engineering degree. I graduated with little idea of what I wanted to do, so after a few career changes I found Invenio, where I have been for the past 3 years.
– Before working at Invenio, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
I have not had the most illustrious career, having briefly worked in a print shop, and at St James park football Stadium, however the most interesting was during my time as a calibration engineer, when I was carrying out maintenance work on the medical equipment at Frankland high security prison, near Durham.
– What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
I am an avid table-top gamer and have been running a campaign for several years now. Additionally, when I have time, I enjoy shooting and the associated socialising that goes with it.
– People would be surprised if they knew:
During my time at University, I was a competitive salsa dancer, and appeared in a number of performance groups for the sport.
